As Director of Children’s Ministries, Kera asked first, second and third graders what they would like to know about her. Here are their questions…and Kera’s answers.
What are you in charge of at UCC?
I am responsible for all programming for children, infants through fifth grade.
Are you a Christian?
Yes, I am a Christian. I believe that I am a child of God, loved by God and I am called to share God’s love with others.
Do you like dogs?
Yes, I like dogs. But, I don’t like dog breath!
What is your favorite sport?
I love all sports! I went to college on a tennis scholarship but don’t have much time to play anymore. I love to throw the football and baseball with my son Davis and kick the soccer ball with my daughters Emory and Whitney. I also have fun coaching the Rock Stars—Whitney’s soccer team.
What do God and Jesus look like?
I don’t know exactly, but I am pretty sure that I see God’s love on the faces of children as they play and share time together.
Where did you go to school and what did you learn about?
I went to West Texas A&M University where I got my degree in Psychology. Next, I went to the University of North Texas where I received my Master’s degree in Behavior Analysis. Finally, I attended the University of Kansas, where I worked toward (but did not complete, although very close) my Ph.D. in Developmental and Child Psychology, focusing on parenting and early childhood.
What’s your favorite color?
Green
What is your favorite hobby?
I love to put jigsaw puzzles together.
What jobs have you had?
I have been a tennis coach, worked with children with special needs in schools and homes, a researcher trying to determine how to help parents, worked with families and children having difficulties, been a college instructor teaching human development and child psychology classes, and a bank teller (I was not very good at this one, I once hit the panic button while spinning around in my chair and the police came with sirens on thinking the bank was being robbed—oops!).
How did you end up like this?
I guess I’m just really lucky to get to do what I love to do—applying my learning and knowledge of children and families to encouraging faith in God and caring for others.
